ይህ ቤተ ክርስቲያን በሳን ሆዜ ከተማ የታላቁ መልአክ የቅዱስ ሚካኤል ክብር እንዲገለጽ በእግዚአብሔር በጎ ፈቃድ በ2009 ዓ. ም የተቋቋመው ሲሆን፤ ዓላማውም፦

1) በሳን ሆዜና በአካባቢው ለሚገኙ ምዕመናን ቀጥተኛ የሆነውን የኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ አስተምሕሮና የወንጌልን መልእክት ማዳረስ፤

2) ለወጣቶች በየዕድያቸው የሰንበት ትምህርት ቤቶችን በማቋቋም

·   የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክ ተዋሕድ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን ዶግማና ቀኖና ጠንቅቀው አውቀው ለእምነታቸው ቋሚ ምስክሮች እንዲሆኑ የሚያግዝ ተከታታይ ትምህርተ ሃይማኖት መስጠት፤

·   ኦርቶዶክሳዊ ትውፊቱን የጠበቀ ያሬዳዊ መዝሙር ማስጠናትና በአገልግሎት ተሳታፊ እንዲሆኑ ማድረግ፤

· በለጋነት ዕድሜ ያሉ ሕጻናትና ታዳጊ ወጣቶች የወላጆቻቸውን ሃይማኖትና ኢትዮጵያዊ ባሕል ጠንቅቀው አውቀው በዜግነታቸው የሚኮሩ አደራ ተቀባይ ዜጎች እንዲሆኑ ለማድረግ የሚያግዝ ፕሮግራም ዘርግቶ  የቋንቋ፣ የመዝሙር፣ የሥነ-ምግባር ትምህርትና፣ ቤተሰባዊ የምክር አገልግሎት መስጠት ነው። በተለይም ቤተሰባዊ የምክር አገልግሎት መስጠት ያስፈለገበት ምክንያት በወላጆችና በልጆች መካከል የሚፈጠሩ አለመግባባቶችን በመፍታት፤ ታዳጊ ወጣቶች ባለማወቅ በዕጽ ሱሰኝነት ተጠምደው የወደፊት ዕድላቸውን እንዳያበላሹ ለማገዝና የቤተ ክርስቲያናችን ተረካቢ እንዲሆኑ ለማዘጋጀት ነው።

Here in the US, the main reason we Ethiopian immigrants congregate in the Church is to maintain our cultural heritage and transfer it to our children. The Orthodox Church, which has a 2000 years history in Ethiopia, has been acting not only as a religious worshiping center but also as a heart of cultural legacy. Parents evidently appear to be zealous to their Christian culture and insist children to retain their native tradition. Children, on the contrary, seem to be reluctant to come to the Church and participate in Sunday school programs. They just rush to adopt what they observe in their surroundings without paying attention to the guidance of the elderly. This causes family conflict and identity crisis among the youth. The Church in Diaspora has a responsibility to narrow the acculturation gap between immigrant parents and their children. Therefore, founded in 2009 by the divine will of God, Debre Selam St. Michae Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has the following plans to execute the following:

1) Preach the gospel, proclaim the Kingdome of God, provide dogmatic and canonical teachings of Orthodoxy to Christians in Bay Area, and help them uphold their ancient Christian  tradition such as performing religious services of worship (Divine Liturgy), Christening (Baptism), wedding ceremonies, and prayer for the death in accordance with the teachings and in conformity to the Church’s long-held experiences of following the ancient Tradition, the Scriptures of the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Patristic Writings.

2) Organize children, youth, and teenagers in Sunday Schools, enable them stay firm in the Orthodox Church and be accountable for their own faith by offering them dogmatic and canonical educations.

• Help them avoid confusions between recognized and none recognized songs by focusing on traditional hymns of St. Yared, the 6^th c. founder of the Ethiopian classical music.Educate Ethiopic language, Church music, and Christian Ethics to children in order to increase understanding of the history, culture, languages and values of Ethiopia.Help them be oriented with their native culture, and provide counseling to resolve family conflicts associated with acculturation discrepancies.

   3) Uphold the moral obligation entrusted to our Church to be strong center of ethics, minimize the cultural gaps between parents and their children through psychosocial education and counseling, minimize runways by teenagers and build a strong and united Ethiopian Christian family free of conflict, criticism, ethnicism, tribalism and racism.
